Why STEM Matters

DSST is committed to four-year college preparation and strong STEM programming that provides access to high-quality STEM opportunities for ALL students. We believe that our commitment to college and STEM will ultimately improve postsecondary and early career outcomes for students and our impact in Colorado. Our focus is on preparing students for the highest skilled STEM jobs including: business and financial, healthcare and technical, computer and software, and math and engineering jobs.

Middle School

At DSST, we believe that preparing the STEM leaders of the future starts early. That's why STEM Lab is a core part of our middle school experience.

STEM Lab is a hands-on course designed to prepare middle school students to become future leaders in science, technology, engineering, and math. Through project-based learning, students build confidence and develop a strong STEM identity by tackling real-world challenges.

STEM courses available in middle school at DSST:

  • Foundations in science and math
  • STEM Lab elective with introduction to concepts in aerospace, coding, biomedical and environmental engineering, and robotics

High School

DSST provides rigorous, college-preparatory STEM programs designed to prepare students for high-demand careers and higher education. Hands-on learning is central, featuring Project Lead The Way (PLTW) courses, coding for robotics, biomedical engineering, and access to cutting-edge tools such as 3D printers and fabrication labs.
 
DSST also offers STEM certificates for students completing specialized coursework, along with opportunities for internships, senior projects, and industry-aligned electives. These programs empower students to innovate and lead in fields like technology, medicine, and environmental sustainability. STEM certificate pathways include:
  • Computer Science
  • Engineering & Sustainable Design 
  • Health Sciences
  • BioSciences

Advanced Placement & Concurrent Enrollment

DSST empowers students to accelerate their academic journey through a robust selection of Advanced Placement (AP) courses and concurrent enrollment opportunities. These programs allow students to earn college credit while in high school, providing a head start on higher education and reducing future tuition costs. With AP offerings across STEM and humanities, and partnerships with local colleges for dual-credit classes, DSST ensures students graduate prepared for college-level rigor and success.

 

College & Career Readiness

At DSST, STEM education goes beyond the classroom to prepare students for success in college and the workforce. Through rigorous coursework, hands-on projects, and real-world applications, students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and technical skills that are in high demand. Our programs include industry-aligned pathways, internship opportunities, and certifications, ensuring graduates are ready to thrive in fields like technology, engineering, health sciences, and environmental sustainability. With access to advanced tools and mentorship, DSST students leave high school equipped to lead and innovate in a rapidly changing world.
