Dr. Jean Kutner

Dr. Jean Kutner is Chief Medical Officer at UCHealth/University of Colorado Hospital, with over 6 years’ experience in the C-suite, reporting directly to the CEO. Dr. Kutner is responsible for clinical resource management, care quality and safety, clinical research and oversight of a medical staff of ~2100 and is responsible for an annual budget of ~$8 million. She has driven initiatives to evaluate adoption of new high cost medical devices and pharmaceutics and to decrease care variability. Dr. Kutner has effectively led through a time of rapid change and significant ambiguity. A team-focused inclusive leader, she excels at engaging diverse perspectives to solve complex problems. Dr. Kutner is facile with analysis and using data to inform decision making and is skilled at explaining complex subjects to diverse audiences.


Dr. Kutner previously served as the Chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine, University of Colorado School of Medicine. She was responsible for professional development of~ 250 faculty and ~40 staff. She managed an annual operating budget of ~$20 million and was responsible for the annual budgeting process, with multiple revenue streams, including contracts, grants, clinical revenue, service agreements and endowment income.


Dr. Kutner has served as the President of the governing boards of the Society of General Internal Medicine and the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, leading strategic planning and implementation, executive director evaluation, budgetary and fiscal oversight and successful fundraising campaigns.
