Hello DSST Cross Country!

I hope you all are having a great summer. For those families coming from the middle school, my  name is Mark Marzen. I’m a math teacher at the DSST Stapleton HS campus and am the head Cross Country coach for the high school as well. I wanted to touch base with everyone since summer is flying by and we’ll be back in gear before we know it. So a couple things:

  1. XC Preseason begins Monday August 6th from 4 – 5:30pm. Practice will be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 4-5:30pm (no Wednesdays) for preseason and for the rest of the season. We get to start preseason a bit earlier this year, so I’m excited about the extra time for training and coming together as a team. Please make sure you are registered as an athlete with Family I.D. (here is the link) , including having a current physical on file (link to physical form), before August 6th.  You must complete the registration and have a current physical on file to participate in any way. If you have any further questions, feel free to contact our Assistant Athletic Director, Allan Scronce as well allan.scronce@scienceandtech.org.
  2. If you haven’t already began running on your own over the summer, I HIGHLY recommend you start now. Coming into preseason with, at the very least, a basic level of fitness and some miles on your feet, will make the start of preseason much more enjoyable, and set you up for a strong XC season.  Try to run 4 days a week, around 30-40 minutes with one day a week 10-15minutes longer, at a speed and effort level that is comfortable for you (where you can carry a simple conversation).  Stretch out for at least 5 minutes after every run, and make sure you drink plenty of water!!

Let us know if you have any questions, and hope you all enjoy the rest of your summer and get out for some running!

Happy Running!

Mark Marzen
