All DSST students require 10 “PE” credits to graduate. Each successful trimester completed is 3.33 credits. Students can earn PE credits through sports, courses offered at school (classes like PE/Health and “lifetime activities” electives), outside athletic participation (e.g. playing sports for another school), or a new option of “virtual” activities (e.g. documented exercise plans with adult oversight). For activities outside of DSST, every 10 hours of activities that is sanctioned and approved counts as 3.33 credits.
All students should ensure they earn these credits as early as possible in high school, and attached are two forms for registering for Outside Participation or Virtual Outside Participaton. The “Outside Participation” form can be used to document sports activities in other schools and the “Virtual Outside Participation” form can be used to document non-traditional activities. If a student is planning to use either form and are uncertain about whether the activity can count, students should email Kate Dresher at Dresher.Kate@scienceandtech.org first to seek approval for the activity. Submitted forms can be shared with Ms. Dresher, as well.

Below are links that can help guide parents and students through the new process of getting registered through BIG Teams. The links give step by step instructions to help register your student. If any further questions are needed to be answered please reach out to Kate Dresher.
The process for obtaining a physical is still the same and still needs to be uploaded to the student account and authorized by the athletic department. Physicals are needed to be able to allow the student to participate in their chosen sport.
