Dress Code Policy

The purpose of the DSST Public Schools dress code is to create a professional, safe and respectful community where students can place their sole focus on learning.  The dress code is in effect from the start of the school day until the end of the school day, including through interventions when applicable.




Not Acceptable


  • DSST:GVR MS uniform polo t-shirt
    • Tucked
    • Collar worn down
  • Solid Color Undershirt (if any color other than black, white, or grey, polo must be buttoned)
  • DSST:GVR MS uniform sweatshirt
  • Long sleeve undershirts (black, gray, white, or purple)
  • Any other top
  • Spirit Wear T-shirts
  • Spirit Wear Hoodies
  • Other Jackets/Sweatshirts (must be put in locker or backpack in the morning)


  • Solid black or khaki (brown/tan) long pants, cargo pants, or capris
  • Black, brown, or tan belt (solid without design)
  • Solid black or khaki (brown/tan)  skirts with the hem or slit no shorter than 2 inches below the fingertips when arms are extended straight at the sides (even when worn with leggings)
  • Leggings or tights worn with skirts must be black, white, purple, or brown
  • Excessively tight or baggy (sagging) pants
  • Blue jeans (denim) pants /skirts
  • Yoga or stretch pants/athletic pants



  • Solid black, brown, or tan shoes
    • Boat shoes, sneakers, dress shoes
  • Sneakers acceptable if:
    • The body is black, brown, tan, or gray
    • The laces, lace holes and rubber soles are black, white, brown, or tan
  • Completely black or brown/tan work boots, rubber boots, or snow shoes

(Shoes need to be sturdy and safe for lab participation)

  • Sandals of any kind
  • Open-toed shoes of any kind
  • House slippers
  • Excessively high heels (boots or heels) – higher than 1 and ½ inches
  • Shoes with patterns or colors (other than “acceptable” colors)
    • wheels or flashing lights


  • DSST:GVR MS Gym T-shirt
  • Athletic shorts or pants
  • Tennis shoes and socks
  • Non-DSST t-shirt tops
  • DSST:GVR MS uniform polo


Dress Down

Students may dress in clothes of their choice, avoiding the items listed in “Not Acceptable”.

  • Shorts of any kind
  • Pajamas or sweatpants
  • Jeans/Pants with excessive rips
  • Tank tops, low-cut tops, see-through or lace tops, tops that show the stomach / shoulders
  • Any clothes with writing or images that are inappropriate for school

Spirit Wear

  • Any DSST: GVR MS top (t-shirt, hoodie, sports jersey, etc.)
  • DSST:GVR MS sweat / athletic pants
  • Regular uniform pants or jeans (denim)
  • Sneakers
  • Shorts of any kind
  • Pajamas or Non-DSST sweatpants
  • Excessively tight or baggy (sagging) pants




  • Writing on self and/or clothing, and excessive makeup are not permitted.
  • Hats, hoods, bandanas, do-rags, gloves, scarves, sunglasses, and non-prescription glasses are not allowed to be worn in school.
  • Clothing, jewelry, or appearances that are distracting to the learning environment are not permitted.

Spirit Wear

Spirit day will be every Wednesday of the week where our students can show the school pride, any official DSST GVR clothing will be permited on this day, you can find the clothing by clicking the following link:


  • Any DSST:GVR MS top (t-shirt, hoodie, sports jersey, etc.)
  • DSST:GVR MS sweatpants
  • Regular uniform pants (as described above)
  • Sneakers

Not Acceptable

  • Shorts of any kind
  • Pajamas or Non-DSST sweatpants
  • Blue Jeans/skirts
