Muslim Student Association (MSA)

Advisor: Brent Modak- brent.modak@sciencandtech.org

When: Every Other Friday

Our purpose is to provide students a space to come together and maintain an Islamic society within the greater DSST community. At meetings we discuss an array of topics ranging from a comparative analysis of world religions to what it means to be a feminist in today’s world. Students of all faiths are welcome to attend.


Newspaper

Advisor: Kathyrn Townsend

When: PA Elective (Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday)

Where: Mrs. Townsend's classroom

 Students learn basic news gathering and writing strategies in order to produce stories for our school newspaper, The Jurassic Times. If students are interested in being part of Newspaper, they should make sure to rank it highly when preferencing their electives at the beginning of each Trimester. 


Snowboarding Club

Advisor: Rick Weismiller

When: December 12 and April 2

Where: Breckenridge Ski Resort

The DSST GVR HS Snowboarding Club has partnered with SOS Outreach, a Denver Organization that provides snowboarding lift tickets, equipment rentals, and lessons at a substantially reduced rate for urban youth.  Each winter we head up to Breckenridge for a few days of snowboarding.  Students of all ability levels are welcome to join, so even if you’ve never been, come join us this winter.  We’ll being going up to the mountains on the weekends of December 12th and April 2nd this year.


Student Council

Advisor: Drew Madson, drew.madson@scienceandtech.org

When: Fridays, 3:35 - 4:30pm

Where: Mr. Madson's Classroom

Student council has sixteen members: four per each grade. Roles within student council include: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Communications director. These positions are voted upon within the council. Student council has regular meeting every Friday at 3:35-4:30 . Elections take place every year in the fall after a week of campaigning and full school debate. Terms last one year.

Former accomplishments of GVR Student Council include: winning outside lunch so all students may enjoy the outdoors during lunch, multiple dances and fundraisers including a basketball tournament and movie showings, student and tea
