A Message from the School Director

Dear Montview Families,

I hope you are having a wonderful summer!

Our Montview Leadership Team has been hard at work this summer preparing for the coming school year while also spending time on our own development. We had a successful summer school for some of our students but have also been putting plans together to support a strong school year!

I know that we have many questions about the upcoming school year. We do not have all of the answers at this time. We are waiting to receive more guidance from Denver Public Schools. While we want to inform you as soon as possible with information, there is a need for us to work closely with partners across the district and state before we can provide that information. Please know that we are keeping the well-being and safety of students and staff in mind while doing everything we can to ensure excellence in academics, instruction, and school culture. As our experience with E-School this Spring taught us, DSST is as equipped and prepared to take on this challenge as any school or district in the country. We know there are challenges ahead, but we can’t wait to take them on with you to ensure a great experience for you and your students.

DSST Public Schools will be closed 6/29-7/17. We’ll be excited to work with you upon our return on Monday, July 20. At that time you should anticipate increased communication from us about the structure of the school year and what we will need to do to help set up all students for success starting on the first day of school.

Below is important information for you to ensure you are prepared for the 2020-21 school year:

  • Updates from DPS & Metro Health Partners: Yesterday we received some initial guidance from Denver Public School and Metro Health who set health parameters for return to school. Your family should be receiving more information from DPS and our network today. Below we want to share a link to the guidance we have been given. Based on this information it is looking like schools will be encouraged to have kids return in full this Fall with health and safety protocols in place.

  • Annual Family Update (Registration):

    • Registration is a requirement for all DSST families before the first day of school

    • Starting Monday, July 20, families can complete Annual Family Update online

    • We will send a reminder on Friday, July 10th about Annual Family Update

  • School Website: Please visit our school website often for up-to-date information about:

  • New Student Academy: Incoming 6th graders along with new-to-DSST 7th and 8th graders are asked to attend New Student Academy (NSA) on August 17th and 18th. We will be sending more information post July 20th about what you and your students will need to do to be prepared and to participate in those days.

    • Please note the dates above are a change from our initial communication about beginning New Student Academy on August 14th. We have made this change to provide our team an additional day of preparation to better set students up for success and to better align with our high school schedule.

  • New School Hours: This year we will see a slight shift to the start and end times of our school days in order to accommodate changes to DPS bus schedules. Please note that this is specific to when students are physically in the building. Adjustments will be communicated based on the need of students to be online or in person for learning purposes. Here are those adjusted times:

    • Start of School Day: Mon-Fri, 8:05a

    • End of School Day:

      • Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri: 4:05p (First Dismissal); 4:55p (Second Dismissal)

      • Weds: 2:20p

  • First Day of School (All Students): Please note that the first day of school for our 7th and 8th graders will be Wednesday, August 19th. Please refer to the note on New Student Academy for updates regarding our 6th grade students.

Enjoy your summer. See you soon!

Go Knights!
