Monthly Director's Note

September 15th, 2020

Dear Families,

I hope that you are doing well. We are settling into the routine of E-School, and are excited about the work that students have engaged in so far this year. We are excited that we’ve had over 90% attendance each day in each period, and we are hopeful that we can increase that percentage to 95% in the next couple of weeks. Please make sure your student is attending all classes on time, and that you are reaching out to our attendance line if students will have an excused absence. Additionally, you should have received a progress report and introduction note from your student’s advisor last week. Please take time to review the progress report with your student, making sure that they are getting support to complete assignments if needed. Reach out to your student’s advisor if you have questions.  You should be receiving a Progress Report for your student every other week.

We are excited to invite you to an online Back to School Night, where you’ll have the opportunity to meet your student’s advisory and hear from the teachers on your student’s grade level. Please see more information below and save the date for Monday September 28 (9th and 10th) and Tuesday September 29 (11th and 12th).

Thank you for being a part of our community. Please see below for some more information about upcoming events and important information.

 Thanks,

Ms. Meyer

School Director

Hello Families!

We’ve had such a strong start to our school year! Though it might not have been the start many of us were hoping for, it has been amazing to see the ways that our students have showed up!

Here are some highlights from our first week:
·       Some of our seniors are enrolled in cross-campus courses, widening the choice options for students to support their interests  and their college applications!
·       Strong relationship building between students and between staff and students.
·       Students are starting to show their courage and curiosity in many of their classes: asking questions, turning on their cameras, and speaking out for what they       believe.

But, we know that school isn’t the only thing on our minds right now, and we wanted to voice our support for our families who are struggling during this time, for those who fear for their safety in our nation and community, for those who are in economic duress given the pandemic, and many others. DSST stands with you, and hopes to continue to partner with you. Please continue to let us know how we can support our young people through these challenges. Safety remains our top priority, while we educate your young people.

Many of you might also be wondering if there are opportunities for your young people to see their peers or to meet in person gatherings. Now that we have online school off to a strong start, we’ll start thinking about ways to provide safe opportunities for young people to gather in small groups (less than 10). More to come on that in the coming weeks.

Thank you for being a part of our community.

Dear DSST Montview HS families,

I am so excited to see all of our students next week! I know that this year is not what we would have planned for, but we are still committed to ensuring your student has access to an excellent education, and we are working hard to make sure students are forming important relationships with peers and teachers.

You should hear from your student’s advisory by Thursday 8/20. Please reach out to Monica Burkin at 303-524-6340 if you have not yet received contact by that time.

Please note that E-School this Fall is much different than in the Spring. We have a full class load of synchronous lessons for students every day. Please let us know if you have any questions about your student’s schedule.

August 2020

Dear DSST Montview HS families,

We hope you are safe, healthy, and enjoying your summer. As you know, the summer has brought incredible uncertainty and concern for our nation and our school community. I know that the uncertainty about how we should and can return to school has made it a challenging summer for many, including myself. I certainly hope you’ve been able to find ways to enjoy your summer break through it all.

As you know from recent communications from our network leadership, we will start our school year online through October 21. Our network leadership in partnership with health officials will make a decision of what is to come after Fall Break by October 1. While we are glad to ensure that more members of our community remain safe, it also makes us sad that we can’t be together, learning in community. However, we are committed to making our “remote start” full of joy, community, and learning.

We will continue to send a biweekly communication on Wednesdays (the next will be Wednesday, August 19), and our network will continue to send weekly messages on Mondays. Please reach out to Monica Burkin at monica.burkin@scienceandtech.org or 720-898-0635.  If you have additional questions or need additional support.

June 2020

Dear Montview Families,

I hope you are having a wonderful summer!

For those of you who don’t yet know me, my name is Becca Meyer, and I am the School Director at DSST Montview High School for the 2020-21 school year, which might be the most unique school year we ever encounter! I’m excited to dive into the challenge together.

Our priorities for the school year remain the same regardless of what school looks like: 1) ensuring that we provide excellent instruction for all students and 2) ensuring that our community is a safe and inclusive one, both physically and emotionally - this includes working towards being an anti-racist community, where all students are truly safe.

The year to come will present us with new challenges. However, I know that it will be an exciting one because our students grow and flourish inside the classroom and out.

While I know that many of us have so many questions about the upcoming school year, I don’t yet have all of the answers. We learned from Denver Public Schools last night that they are hopeful for a return to school in the Fall. Please be on the lookout for a message from our network team today to explain a little bit more about this recommendation. Rest assured that we are keeping the following in mind as we make decisions for next school year: well-being and safety for students and staff AND excellence in academics and instruction.

DSST Public Schools will be closed 6/29-7/17. We’ll be excited to work with you upon our return on Monday July 20.

Below is important information for you to ensure you are prepared for the 2020-21 school year:

  • Annual Family Update (Required for all students to complete no later than July 31st in order to receive a computer before the first day of school) Window will open July 27th. To complete update click here
  • School Website dsstpublicschool.org ( information regarding school supply list, fees, school updates)
  • New Student Academy (for new-to-DSST students only) August 17th and 18th
  • First Day of School (All Students) August 24th

Enjoy your summer. See you soon!

Ms. Becca Meyer
