Clarification of DSST Reopening Process

Dear DSST Families,

Happy Friday! I hope you all had a great week. I’m reaching out today to clarify some conflicting communications that have recently been sent from DPS and that may have caused confusion.

Many of you, especially those with students who also attend a district-run school, have likely received emails or texts asking that you select an in person or virtual option for your student by Sept 18th (for elementary) and September 23 (for middle and high school). We are NOT asking DSST families to make a selection just yet for your students who attend DSST schools, so please disregard this deadline.  As we have previously stated, we will be making a decision by October 1st on our post-fall break plans.  If an in-person option is available, we will communicate the details of that option and THEN we will ask you to indicate whether your students will return to in person or will remain enrolled in e-school. We will likely be asking for your decision on this important matter at the end of September or early October.

Please know that you will receive the most pertinent and accurate updates for your DSST students directly from DSST. We are dedicated to providing you with the latest updates as they become available, and whatever DPS decides for post Fall Break may not necessarily be the same as DSST.

We continue to monitor key health metrics in Denver and Adams counties regarding the transmission and community presence of COVID, and are updated daily on our Health Monitoring Metrics dashboard. We are also gathering input from staff, families, and students on what a safe and effective return to in-person school may look like. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts in last week’s survey. If you haven’t already, please take a few minutes to complete the survey. Your input is essential as we make this critical decision.

Thank you for your continued patience and flexibility during these uncertain times. I hope you all have a great weekend, and I look forward to sharing more updates with you soon!
