DSST: Byers Middle School opened its doors to 150 sixth graders in June of 2013. Located in Denver’s Speer neighborhood at 150 S. Pearl Street, DSST: Byers now serves more than 450 sixth through eighth graders from across the city. The school’s opening helped accommodate a growing urban student population and offers the highest quality of college preparatory education for families.
This college prep focus, with an emphasis on developing students through liberal arts learning (reading, writing, mathematics, and science), is the foundation of academics at DSST: Byers. Students succeed through structured classroom environments with clear academic and behavioral expectations. After completion of our program, students will be confidently prepared for rigorous high school instruction and, ultimately, for the rewarding challenges of a college education.
The DSST: Byers campus occupies the beautiful Byers Junior High School building, a historic site that was constructed in 1921 and first closed to the community in 2003. A decade later, the renovated building reopened with the support of the community and now continues to be a place of learning and growth.
Thank you for your interest in DSST: Byers Middle School, the fifth campus of the DSST Public Schools award-winning network of public, open enrollment charter schools.
DSST: Byers participates in the Denver Public Schools School of Choice Process. As such, all admissions to DSST are coordinated through the lottery process.
Round one of the DPS School of Choice lottery for the 2017-2018 school year closed on January 30th, 2017. The second round of the School of Choice Process opened in mid-March, and applications are accepted at the front desk of DSST: Byers on a first come, first served basis. We are accepting Round 2 Choice Forms until the first week of September. Students on the waitlist remained on the waitlist until the end off December, and as of January 1st it has been dissolved for the 2017-18 school year. Waitlist information is available from the Office of Choice and Enrollment Services. Should your student be interested in transferring mid-year to DSST: Byers, please first contact the front desk to find out about any openings.
For more information about the process for selecting DSST: Byers for your student, please refer to the DPS Office of Choice and Enrollment website.
Post Enrollment Qualifications
